Stress and Anxiety
Ease stress and anxiety, boost your mood, improve your immune system and quality of sleep and promote optimum relaxation.
How does Acupuncture help stress and anxiety?
Acupuncture shifts the body from a sympathetic “fight or flight” state to a parasympathetic relaxed state. Acupuncture sends a signal to your brain that your body is able to heal and relax, the blood can flow and the various organ systems of your body can come back into balance.
In our modern world, we are so stressed, anxious and overwhelmed so often – sometimes always! This means that we are in the fight or flight state way too often and for long periods of time.

When your body is in a sympathetic “fight or flight” state, the other systems of the body, such as the immune system, digestive system and reproductive systems, are temporarily put on hold and weaken.
Acupuncture can slow down the production of stress hormones like cortisol and stimulate the release of endorphins in the brain. Endorphins boost our mood, make us feel happy and combat anxiety and depression.
What are the negative effects of long term stress?
Chronic stress and anxiety can cause symptoms such as migraine headaches, muscle tension, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, infertility, exhaustion and insomnia to name a few.
What to expect in a typical stress & relaxation treatment
When you enter Dr. Maryam’s clinic, she will greet you outside and escort you to a dimly lit, comfortably warm treatment room. Dr. Maryam will insert needles into your lower legs including your feet and ankles, your hands, top of the head, ears and forehead. The needles will stay in for 20 to 25 minutes while you close your eyes and let your body completely relax.
I recommend treatments to be twice per week to start with and as you feel better and better, the frequency of treatments can taper down.
Acupuncture is a cumulative process which means the treatments build on each other. The more treatments you receive, the more beneficial it is! Having said this, acupuncture is still very helpful even after just one or two sessions and can work right away.
Acupuncture has been shown to give rapid results when it comes to relieving stress and anxiety and bringing your body back into balance.
