Why do you need a healthy uterine lining?

An embryo can’t implant if the uterine (endometrium) environment is not healthy. The uterine lining should be nice and thick especially in the luteal phase (second half) of your cycle.

Fertility drugs (such as clomid) & long term use of the birth control pill can cause thinning of the uterine lining.

1. Nourishing Diet

Eating nourishing blood building foods can do wonders to increasing your uterine lining.  

One of my top recommendations is organic bone broth.  Here’s more on this and other dietary tips below:

Organic Bone Broth

  • For best results, drink 1 to 3 cups per day
  • Bone Broth builds the blood & is very nourishing to build healthy blood cells for the uterine lining.
  • Homemade broth is best but if it’s too much work or too intimidating to make it yourself, you don’t have to worry – store bought organic bone broth is great too.

Have protein with every meal

  • Protein is building block of cells.
  • Animal protein is best.
  • Organic grass fed beef and
    lamb are great choices.

Other foods to incorporate into your diet

  • Dark cooked leafy greens.
  • Dark cooked cruciferous vegetables.
  • Spirulina, eggs, beets, barley, beans, pumpkin seeds, molasses and asparagus.

2. Warmth

How Keeping Your Feet Warm Will Boost Your Fertility

Cold constricts proper blood flow to the uterus. Make a commitment to keeping your body warm – especially your feet, lower abdomen & lower back. 

Soak your feet in warm water every night, eat warm foods, use heating pads/hot water bottles over the lower abdomen frequently. Avoid cold raw foods and cold environments like swimming pools.

3. Iron Supplement

The iron in your prenatal vitamin may not be enough if you’re anemic. Taking an iron supplement is especially useful during menstruation when you’re losing blood and iron. I recommend Bob’s iron if you’re quite low in iron or Floradix liquid iron for those whose iron levels are normal in their bloodwork.

4. Acupuncture & Self-Acupressure

This is my all-time favorite tool for increasing blood flow to the uterus to thicken the uterine lining. Weekly acupuncture treatments (consistency is key) give best results. 

Find a qualified acupuncturist in your area that can also teach you acupressure points to do on yourself for a few minutes per day at home.

5. Good quality sleep

Try to be in bed before 10:00pm and read before falling asleep (no electronics). Proper restful sleep is so important as the whole body restores itself while you sleep. Pay special attention to get enough rest during menstruation.

6. Reduce Your Stress

Stress can cause constriction in the uterine arteries preventing proper thickening of the uterine lining. 

Incorporate things that you enjoy in your daily routine such as hobbies or fun projects around the house. Meditation & going for long walks are great stress relievers.

7. Suitable Exercise

Moving your body is essential to proper blood flow to the uterus but it’s important to not over exercise or sweat too much because you don’t want to lose fluids. Fluids make up your blood. Avoid hot yoga and spin classes for example. Instead, do regular yoga. stretching, walking, Qi gong or tai chi.
